Dr. Kakar is a Professor of Anatomic Pathology at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF); Chief, Gastrointestinal-Hepatobiliary Pathology Service; Director, Gastrointestinal-Hepatobiliary Pathology Fellowship Program UCSF School of Medicine, San Francisco, CA. He did his MBBS from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, India. He received his MD from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Research and Education (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. Dr. Kakar completed his residency in Pathology from University of Illinois at Chicago; fellowship in GI/liver pathology and molecular pathology from Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He is a board certified anatomic pathologist, board certification in clinical pathology. His main research interests are in the field of colorectal cancer, microsatellite instability, appendiceal neoplasms, hepatocellular adenoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology. He is an active member of various societies such as: College of American Pathologists (CAP); United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP); United States Gastrointestinal Pathology Society (GIPS); South Bay Pathology Society; Association of Indian Pathologists in North America; American Association of the Study of Liver diseases (AASLD); California Society of Pathologists (CSP); American Gastroenterology Association (AGA); American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP); American Joint Committee on Cancer (9th edition). Dr. Kakar is a Member, Editorial Board, Human Pathology; Member, Editorial Board, World Journal of Hepatology; Member, Colorectal Panel. He has trained several fellows and published 135 peer reviewed papers in high impact journals.
