Rajvir Dahiya

Rajvir Dahiya is a Professor Emeritus of Urology at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF). He received his PhD in the field of Experimental Medicine (1978-1983) from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India. He did his post-doctoral fellowship training in oncology and molecular biology (1983-1987) at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. After that he joined the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) and San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in 1987. He became director of the UCSF/VAMC Urology Research Center in 1991. After 34 years of service at the UCSF, he retired as a Professor Emeritus and Director of Urology Research Center. Also retired as a Senior Research Career Scientist from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Washington DC.

Dr. Dahiya serves as a scientific reviewer and chairman for the United States Army Department of Defense’s (DOD) medical research programs in prostate, breast and ovarian cancer since 1997. He is also a scientific reviewer and chairman of scientific review committees for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) including the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Institutes of Digestive Diseases and Kidney (NIDDK) and the National Institute of Aging (NIA). He reviews scientific progress and future plans for comprehensive cancer center programs, the George O’Brien Research Center, the NCI funded Specialized Program for Research Excellence (SPORE); postdoctoral fellow training programs; program projects related to oncology and research projects related to urologic oncology. Dr. Dahiya is a medical research advisor and scientific reviewer for numerous international programs and universities including institutions located in Europe, Israel, Japan Korea and Brazil. 

Dr. Dahiya was a scientific adviser to the President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abul Kalam (Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, 11th President of India from 2002-2007). 

Dr. Dahiya has published more than 400 original research manuscripts in peer reviewed high impact journals and written chapters in various books and holds multiple patents in oncology. He trained more than 100 post-doctoral fellows and visiting Professors during his career in the field of cancer etiology, pathophysiology, genetics, epigenetic, for understanding cancer initiation, progression and metastasis using various in vitro and in vivo models and pre-clinical models. He has several US patents in the field of urology and oncology. Based on the NIH and VA data base NIH Reporter, Dahiya is awarded 99 times through his NIH/NCI/VA funded research projects. Dr. Dahiya was an Associate Editor of “CANCER RESEARCH” from 2000-2012. Currently, he is an Associate Editor of “CLINICAL CANCER RESEARCH” from 2012-present. He is also an Academic Editor of “PLoS ONE” from 2011-present and senior academic editor of “Amer J. Cancer Res” 2010-present.
